Knowing the door is not the same as getting in

Common questions

Who actually buys drone and UAV components?

Three distinct groups, and they buy very differently. Platform manufacturers buy airframes, propulsion, avionics and payloads through supplier registration. Defence and public safety agencies buy finished systems through tenders. Advanced air mobility developers are mostly venture funded and buy through direct commercial relationships rather than formal portals, which is why the entries above mix registration links with contact routes.

What approvals do drone suppliers usually need?

It depends on where the aircraft flies and what it carries. Civil operations are governed by the national aviation regulator, such as the DGCA in India, the FAA in the United States and EASA across Europe. Component suppliers are more often asked for quality system evidence such as AS9100 or ISO 9001, plus traceability on anything flight critical. Check the specific requirement on each buyer portal before you invest in certification.

Are drone contracts awarded by tender or by registration?

Government and defence buyers publish tenders. Commercial platform makers run vendor registration and invite quotes from their approved list. If you sell into both, you need to be visible in both places, which is why this list separates them.

After you have found the door

Aviation buying cycles are long and the evaluator list is small. Being a known name before the shortlist is drawn matters more here than in almost any other sector. Ratha writes the LinkedIn content those evaluators read, and tells you which of them engaged with it.
